Martin Dunn, Head of Activities, Education & Training
With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Martin Dunn has a passion for outdoor recreation and education. What he likes most about being Activities Manager at Kippure Estate is meeting a variety of people (from children to adults), encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone and feel the rush of achievement, all the while enjoying their time in the great outdoors!Martin has a degree in Outdoor Environmental Education from Liverpool John Moores University, and has also earned specialized rock climbing, water sport and mountaineering/walking qualifications. He brought a wealth of global educational and outdoor experiences with him upon assuming his current role at Kippure Estate, which he began in 2007. In the United States, he worked as an outdoor leader at Camp America in Minnesota for two summers; in Colorado he fell in love with the mountains where the Rockies were his playground for high-intensity trekking and rock climbing adventures. In the UK, Martin led outdoor programs for children with emotional/behavioural disorders living in residential care. He further honed his skills at developing and delivering educational adventure programs in northern France, where for two years he served as an Activities Manager for a UK-run educational and outdoor adventure company. As Kippure Estate’s Activities Manager, Martin is devoted to creating, expanding and leading outdoor experiential, educational and teambuilding programmes to groups of varied backgrounds and sizes (from six to 400). He also shares his knowledge and experience by offering training opportunities to facilitators around the world.
Damian O'Donnell, Head of Corporate Sales
Damian O’Donnell has been leading adventure and team building programmes at Kippure Estate since 2008.Originally from Dublin, Damian has always been enthusiastic about adventure sports and recreation. His favourite sports have included tennis, hockey and rugby. It’s not surprising then that he was awarded All Round Sportsman when he completed his secondary schooling at Saint Gerard’s School. Damian has also completed an Honours degree in Geography and Sociology from Trinity College Dublin, as well as a Diploma in Outdoor Adventure Management. Damian kick-started his outdoor recreation career as a powerboat driver guiding tourists around Dublin Bay. Before assuming his role at Kippure Estate, he gained valuable experience as a teambuilding and adventure activity Event Manager. The travel bug has indeed taken a bite out of Damian! He has been all over the world, from Japan and Thailand to all across Europe and the Americas. His style of travel is not that of a tourist but to intimately experience the local culture, whether it be rock climbing in Brazil (which he has enjoyed for several winters) or waiting tables in New York (which he did during his Gap Year). From his travels, Damian has become multi-lingual and is able to converse in Spanish, French and Portuguese. Damian brings this sense of adventure and joie de vie to each of the programmes he leads at Kippure Estate, making the experience for his clients that much more fulfilling!
Kimo Sydney, Sales Executive
Growing up in Durban South Africa, Kimo Sydney could not help but fall in love with the outdoors. As a kid, he spent most of his time on two wheels, and at the tender age of four, he got his first mini motocross bike—an Italjet 50cc! Two years later, BMX racing began to consume his life. He became so talented that he competed at the 1987 and 1988 BMX World Championships, when he was 11 and 12 years old! At the time South Africa was banned from international competition due to sanctions arising from Apartheid. Thus, the South African team rode for Chile and their names were changed to avoid suspicion. Kimo was registered as ‘Mario Sydney’ for the event!Eventually Kimo’s parents insisted he put the bikes away so he could focus on school. But it wasn’t long before the next distraction took hold—surfing the mighty Indian Ocean! However, this didn’t stop him from graduating from high school and completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After university, Kimo left the African shores for England, followed by Ireland, where he still hangs his hat today. Shortly after arriving at the Emerald Isle in 2003, Kimo started working at Kippure and has been here ever since. In addition to his fervour for dare-devilish outdoor activities, Kimo also has a passion for people and this shines through with his work at Kippure Estate. As Sales Executive he manages a variety of group bookings, from hen and stag parties and outdoor adventure events to special interest activities.
